I survived a week on ¥500 lunches only — here's what happened
I spent a week eating only ¥500-or-less lunches around Shinjuku.
Results: All 5 weekday lunches under ¥500. Total: ¥2,350 (avg ¥470/day)
Where I went:
Mon: Katsuya katsudon ¥594→¥494 with coupon
Tue: Fuji Soba kake soba ¥370
Wed: Matsuya beef bowl ¥460
Thu: Hidakaya Chinese noodles ¥490
Fri: Local teishoku place ¥500
Takeaways:
- Surprisingly not boring — lots of variety
- Chain restaurant app coupons save even more
- Many places under ¥500 serve decent portions
- Checking KetchUP before going is efficient
If I kept this up for a month, lunch costs would be around ¥10,000.
